V-day

Seriously - I just don't get the whole valentines day thing. I just don't get it.

J and I are of like mind here. Just like we think New Years Eve is like amateur night for drinking (for the people who only get out and party once a year) - we think think valentines day is like amateur day for romance - for people who don't get any romance in their lives every other day of the year. J and I have a pretty romantic existence most of the time - so we just don't feel the need for it. Tonight we will be going to our favorite local pub to meet some friends for a burger - as we have been doing every wednesday night for the last month or so.

So, ok fine. Some people feel the need to rustle up some romance for their sweetie - or for someone they would like to be their sweetie. I can sort of go along, if that's important to you. It just isn't to us. But beyond that? for people who aren't your sweetie?

My mother just left me a voice mail. To tell me happy valentines day. But also to remind me to call my grandmother and wish her a happy valentines day. "it's very important to her".

HUH? This is where I am just not able to stretch my imagination. I thought V-day was a 'romantic' holiday. I mean - I love my grandma. But not romantically.

can somebody explain this to me??

(oh - and - the pukiness continues. I think the mere smell of roses and chocolate would make me want to barf.)

My family always said Happy Valentine's Day to one another. S thinks my family is a little looney for this practice, but for us it isn't a romantic holiday, more a in case I haven't told ya lately, I love ya, holiday.

Not sure if this explains anything.

I love the analogy--V-day is romance for amateurs. And have you called your grandmum? :-)

DH has been banned from ever buying my flowers on Vday - such a rip off. We'll do a nice dinner at home and I'll probably pull out the wedding china, just for kicks. But not the silver.

I just think it's so much pressure to perform, ya know? And I'd rather DH buy me roses for no reason at all 4-5 times during the year for the same price as flowers today. Somehow he keeps forgetting that part of the bargain though. Hmmm...

I always got better VDay presents from my mother than from any boyfriend or husband. Go figure.

Hm, yes - not sure grandma needs the V-Day greeting? Did you call her anyway, since it's important to her?

Yes, did you call her?

I don't know why, but I get calls from my mother like that too. Call your grandmother, its . . .

Happy Valentine's Day! Love the ticker!

My family was never big on V-day either. And H and I don't celebrate it either. Today was just Wednesday.

I knooooowwww! I just hate New Years Eve - it's such a forced party. I'd be happy to get into bed at 9:45 and wake up the following year without all the hoo-ha that goes with it.

I'm so glad everything seems to be going smoothly with bub and that your symptoms are looking sweeeeet!

We don't really do anything for Valentine's Day. We actually went out to eat with my in laws and then took down our christmas tree. I know I know we are slackers!
