Shopping marathon! 24 weeks 4 days

Phew! Full weekend. I think I had to come to work today just to get some rest!

Mom was in town, I took friday off work. And we spent three full days shopping and registering for baby stuff. I went from having not purchased a single baby item, to basically now owning an entire room full!

Oh my gosh – we covered a lot of ground. We filled up the car every day for three days! It was pretty funny. We got two cribs, two mattresses and all the bedding. Plus a dresser and changing pad (we are just doing a pad on top of an adult dresser, vs. buying a changing table). And curtains, curtain rods and a rug. Some shelves, baskets for organizing, some closet organizers. Also a few misc. basic clothing things (onesies and gowns), waterproof pads, receiving blankets, etc. And I got the twins nursing pillow – which is huge, but everybody on my twins site says it’s a must if you plan to nurse, which I definitely do. My mom also brought me two moses baskets, and some books and puzzles, and some cute socks, and these warm fuzzy things that go in the car seat and zip around to keep the babies warm.

I still want to buy a bookshelf, and need some lamps, but I want to get the other stuff put together first and then see what we have room for. I'm not sure yet if I'll have room for a chair or rocker in the babies room, if not maybe I'll get some kind of rocker to put in the living room. And we registered for a lot of stuff too. We were in Babies.R.Us for three hours! I went ahead and put some of the bigger things on the registry – car seats, high chairs, strollers, etc. – I expect that I’ll end up buying those in the end, but thought I’d put them on the registry for now anyway. My mom paid for the cribs and all the bedding – which was just awesome and so generous! I was exhausted every night. But it was also so great having mom at my house - because between her and J, I wasn't allowed to lift a finger. She cooked dinner and did all the laundry and they both just kept telling me to sit down and put my feet up.

I also broke down and bought some nursing bras this weekend. We have a store in our neighborhood called Birth and Beyond – it’s kind of an earthy store (they sell those slings, and lots of things made from organic cotton, and all kinds of cloth diapering supplies – also lots of really nice quality baby things that you can’t find other places), but I’ve been wanting to go in there forever and my mom and I finally went. They had really nice stuff - I will definitely go back to get some of their nice baby things, and mabye some nursing tops too - they had some nice shirts that were functional, but also very cute. And the bras I got were very reasonably priced I thought – around $25 - $30. I had heard from some people that you shouldn’t buy a nursing bra until after your milk comes in, but the girl in the store said that’s not true and it’s fine to go ahead and buy it, just buy so that you’re on the tightest hook adjustment so you have room to grow, and make sure there’s a bit of room in the cups. I had been trying to hold out, but I really couldn’t wait any longer. And I didn’t really want to waste my money on different size ‘regular’ bras that I won’t use for very long.

I am having two showers – one in San Diego and one here in Seattle. Both will be fairly small, maybe 10 -12 people, but I'm looking forward to them, and the SD one will be especially fun because hopefully I will get to see some friends that I haven't seen in a long time - I hope they decide to come. And all but one of my sisters will be there, plus some family and some very close family friends. I hope the doc lets me get on the plane! I have an OB appointment the day before I'm scheduled to leave.

We also got a lot of work done in cleaning out the room. We took a whole car load of stuff to goodwill, and we did a bunch of organizing. I just need to get 1 more old dresser and a few piles of misc junk out of that room, and then we’re ready to start putting furniture together and getting the room ready.

And these babies were busy all weekend! The newest thing is that they are kicking me way down low – feels like on my cervix. It hurts!

I will post pics as we start to get things put together.

sounds like a very productive weekend!

I miss the B&B store that used to be out this way. I guess knowing that you live near the other one means I'll HAVE to come visit you and the babies just so we can all go to that one for some shopping.

I know all about the kicks (or some sort of movement) on the cervix. It does hurt!

I went to B&B this morning before my OB appointment. I bought the bustier you linked to on my blog for pumping - it worked pretty well! I could take a nap if I wanted to and not have to worry about leaking!
