quitters?

We have given up on the cloth diapers.

I feel really guilty about it. I really wanted to do it, I felt like it was the right thing for the babies and for the world. But I guess we all can't save the world. I feel good that we at least did it for two months.

It happened after thanksgiving. We went to San Diego for a week and used disposable diapers the whole time we were there, I didn't want to travel with the cloth ones. And it was so much easier. We quickly realized that we could get through the middle of the night feeding without changing them, and that made a huge difference. We could get the night feeding done and get them back to sleep so much faster. With the cloth diapers we really couldn't go more than 4 hours, otherwise they would be soaked.

We considered trying to stick with the cloth for the day time and then using a disposable at night. But I guess we both felt like all or nothing was better for us - we have enough going on that we need one system that we can stick to. So we drug our feet and felt guilty about it for a few days (mostly me feeling guilty), and finally made the decision. I made Jim call the diaper service and cancel.

So oh well. We quit on that one. I usually don't give up on things.

You are a saint for even trying cloth diapers for a week let alone how long you have gone! I feel bad about all the pooh and diaper that will be around still the next time Jake is in diapers, but I can't imagine cloth. So much work when you are already caring for two little sweeties!

i've actually heard that its a toss up between cloth and disposable for the environment...that cloth diapers waste a lot of water to clean and that disposable diapers fill up landfills...sounds to me like you are doing a GREAT JOB with the twins!

Don't worry, cloth sounds almost impossible with twins unless you have some special reason why (like an extra pair of hands and a free hour or two). Plus cloth, like Kelly W said, has its own share of problems.

I would have liked to try cloth diapers, but with the triplets, it was never going to happen. However, as Kelly said, it really is a toss-up environmentally... landfills vs. water waste, etc. I wanted cloth for the savings, financially, but I just don't think it's worth it with three... my time and aggravation is definitely worth more.
